I once said to Paul Sparenborg, ‘We’ll never need more than 10 people for our business’. Paul replied, ‘If we grow well, we might eventually become 20’.
Today, there are 50 of us.The post-coronavirus crisis period was particularly challenging, as we had to let some employees go with a heavy heart. The day this announcement was made was very emotional for me. On the one hand, because of the seriousness of the news, and on the other hand, because of the great understanding and solidarity I experienced among the workforce and even from those directly affected.
In the past, some areas tended to be rather chaotic and messy. In some offices, there was hardly any desk space left. With the introduction of a tidiness concept (clean desk policy), we changed that overnight. Today, we are regularly praised by our business partners and auditors for our clean, well-organised premises.
How Paul Sparenborg and I took advantage of every opportunity (no matter how unprofessional) to sell our products when we were young. Even at LAN parties or with our own Christmas market stall selling fairy lights. There are also some great stories about boozy Christmas and carnival celebrations, but unfortunately I'm not allowed to tell them.

From the outset, I had no doubt that LEDs would make a major breakthrough in all areas of application. Looking back, I started out with a great deal of naivety and ignorance, but that is probably what helped me to believe confidently in the indisputable future of the technology and, with it, our work.
The past few years have been marked by a hard landing in economic reality. We had to make decisions that affected me deeply on a human level. I am proud of the solidarity and support we experienced during these difficult years. However, it was not an easy path, and we also had to endure some painful setbacks.
One of the highlights was the move in 2019 to our own newly renovated building. Here, you can feel comfortable and enjoy a highly efficient work environment that helps us tackle our daily challenges.
One of our developers suddenly burst out of the lab and shouted, “Gas alarm!” — completely covered in paint. Of course, it was totally harmless, but unfortunately, at that very moment, we happened to be touring the building with a TÜV auditor.

When I started at LUMITRONIX, my brother's company, I didn't know what to expect. What inspired me from the very beginning was the trust placed in me: I had room to develop, take on responsibility, contribute my own ideas and build something. This trust motivated me to fill it with life and make the most of it, in what was then still a small company that had to assert itself in an emerging market.
I have very fond memories of the department head conference in Austria. It didn't feel like work at all, but rather like being on holiday with my friends, letting new ideas flourish. I also felt a wonderful sense of connection with my colleagues and the company, which still resonates with me today when I think back on it.
Actually, setting up the production line and production processes for our industrial division, straight from my apprenticeship. This involved gathering expertise and forming a ‘team’. Looking back, I think that was the biggest achievement in a short period of time and it took a lot of hard work from me/us.
How, in the early days, I stayed up late into the night trying to get old placement machines (Siemens S25) running, using floppy disks to go through various service and calibration processes — and how, during my training in electronics manufacturing, I did manual assemblies without having any real understanding of electronics production.
